Extremely Athletic
During this episode, we harken back to our podcast roots with an equal focus on DEI and sport. Check out Dr. Shaunna and Dr. Lisa's latest thoughts at the intersection of both:
Phase 1 [1:53]: Jackie Robinson, Again: Dr. Shaunna jumps on another Black History Month soap box, by considering what is and is not taught in public education. Trai has a lackluster assignment researching Jackie Robinson, the incomparable Black athlete who broke the color line in American baseball...for the second time in only a few years.
Phase 2 [14:33]: Super Bowl LVIII: Did ya'll know that an American football game broke out at the Usher concert? Just kidding, but only mildly. Dr. Lisa brings up the complexity of race, gender, and nationality when we discuss the celebrity buzz (shout out to the Beyhive) at the "World Championship" game between the Kansas City Chiefs (cringe) and the San Francisco 49ers.
Phase 3 [27:10]: 45%: Speaking of the Superbowl, Dove launched a body confidence campaign addressing the stark reality that 45% of young girls drop out of sport due to low body confidence. Dr. Shaunna and Dr. Lisa address what parents, schools, and coaches can do to retain girls in sport.
