This week on [un]phased unedited, Dr. Shaunna and Dr. Lisa discuss the influence of voter demographics on the recent election, why women tend to get less exercise, and they explore a new concept called “Spiritual Bypassing” which can lead the minimization of someone’s pain.
Word of the Week [1:08]: Reframing: Is the glass half empty or half full? Depending on your perspective, you may need to intentionally think differently.
Phase 1 [4:55]: White Women and the Vote: Just a couple of days before the U.S. Presidential Election, professor, journalist, and creator of the 1619 Project Nikole Hannah Jones published a New York Times article tracing the history of white women's voting patterns.
Phase 2 [18:05]: Women Get Less Exercise: Although this is 'water is wet' news, the why behind this reality is intriguing. Apparently, little girls who are discouraged from exercise (including individual and team sport) grow up to be women with the same societal pressures keeping them from regular exercise. Research shows women do not need as much exercise to reap the health benefits compared to me, yet they aren’t getting enough. Why?
Phase 3 [29:25]: Spiritual Bypassing: A 1980s term has been given new life in the wake of the election. Empty spiritual platitudes are being thrown at very real suffering, discomfort, and in some cases, hopelessness for what the future holds.
