Divest and Contract

In the last episode of 2024, Drs Shaunna and Lisa applaud General Tubman, give a slight side-eye to Cynthia Erivo, and remove themselves from the mythology of self-care.

Word of the Week [1:05]: Diaspora: As we consider the Greek term for "disperse", it's noted how often the word is misused when referring to cultures and homelands.

Phase 1 [4:00]: General Tubman: On Veteran's Day, Maryland Governor and veteran Wes Moore, along with the Maryland National Guard posthumously name Harriett Tubman as a one-star general. As a nurse, spy, guide, and abolitionist, this designation was witnessed by her descendants.

Phase 2 [47:55]: Wickedly British: Over the last few weeks, folks around the world have been enjoying the prequel to the Wizard of Oz story on the big screen. The movie features "Harriet" star, Cynthia Erivo. Some have refused to watch Wicked, citing lingering bitterness over Erivo's casting as Harriet Tubman in the Harriet movie. What is lost when a Black Brit takes on this important role, rather than selecting an African American actor?

Phase 3 [33:20]: Self-Care Habits: Moving into the new year, many of us get wrapped up in resolutions – things we are going start doing. However, instead of focusing on new things to start doing, the hosts discuss the things they’re going to stop doing, standing defiantly against the self-care industrial complex.

Don't forget! Dr. Lisa and Dr. Shaunna are letting the microphones cool off for a couple of weeks, but we'll be back with new episodes starting January 7, 2025, on the usual Tuesday drop date. Until then, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
