Who Gets to Rest?
In this week's episode, Dr. Shaunna and Dr. Lisa address various aspects of rest.
Phase 1 [1:35]: During the winter break before New Year's Day, Dr. Shaunna explored Washington, DC by visiting an independent theatre to watch American Fiction, starring Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Sterling K. Brown.
Phase 2 [11:53] : The Resignation of Dr. Claudine Gay of Harvard. We are saddened, yet this is a clear example of the height of complexity around a Black woman in leadership, the glass cliff, and the interpretation of non-white / non-male excellence.
Phase 3 [23:25]: Rest versus Laziness. Tricia Hersey has been dubbed the "Bishop" of the "Nap Ministry". We talk about how U.S. dynamics interpret the human function of resting as laziness and glorifies the overwork of some people as standard from a capitalist perspective. Pick up Hersey's book, "Rest is Resistance" and the Rest Deck that reframes rest as a human function.
