Doubling Down

After giving some final updates on Black History Month, Dr. Lisa and Dr. Shaunna transition into Women's History Month topics, where injustice continues to abound.

Phase 1 [4:26]: Alabama Embryos: Three families filed a wrongful death suit when their embryos were accidentally destroyed at a clinic. This has created a waterfall effect, halting services at IVF clinics, shipping services, and other crucial reproductive services for families. This slippery slope will surely slide the issue to the docket in other states.

Phase 2 [15:34]: Hate on the Interwebs: Unsurprisingly, Texas and Florida have laws preventing social media platforms from restricting content on their sites. This is on the premise that social media sites disproportionately limit conservative speech - the speech in question is often offensive, hateful, or inciting violence. Dr. Lisa and Dr. Shaunna discuss these implications and 1st Amendment Rights protecting free (yet sometimes harmful) speech.

Phase 3 [28:20] : Evolving from Violent Language: Ever wonder where some of our violent American English terms come from? Words and phrases like "kill two birds with one stone" and "What's the deadline?" are just a few that Dr. Lisa and Dr. Shaunna consider. The answer is not to censor ourselves, but simply to consider less violent alternatives in our vocabulary.
