Ridiculousness
This is not a "Ridiculist" with Anderson Cooper, but it may be close. On this episode, Dr. Lisa and Dr. Shaunna provide a snippet about the developing story of the collapse of Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge and what it means for socioeconomic status and transportation. From there, they get into their own ridiculous list: the SCOTUS hearing on mifepristone, questioning "white" as a slur, and the Kate Middleton frenzy over her photoshopping images of her family.
Phase 1 [6:20]: Mifepristone: SCOTUS heard arguments about the abortion pill on March 26th. It seemed like most justices doubted the anti-abortion doctors bringing the suit had standing to sue the FDA and request the elimination of access to a key medication used to terminate more than 60% of U.S. pregnancies. Dr. Lisa leads the discussion on access, anti-intellectualism, and big assaults on smaller groups.
Phase 2 [16:50]: "White" Slurs: Sam Kerr, an Australian soccer player, was recently (and ridiculously!) charged with "racially aggravated harassment" after allegedly calling a British police officer a "stupid white bastard". Dr. Shaunna and Dr. Lisa start with the n-word and juxtapose words invoking whiteness to test the limits of white people's arguments of reverse racism. Historical context in central in these discussions.
Phase 3 [34:10]: Kate Middleton's Photo Recovery: Dr. Shaunna and Dr. Lisa examine the ridiculousness surrounding Kate's admitted photoshopping of a family snap. The hyper-critique by the media followed by its (brief) retreat once she announced going through preventative chemotherapy for cancer are discussed.
