ILL-logical
This week on the pod, Drs. Shaunna and Lisa discuss a few issues that one might describe as illogical – underestimating HMCU American football coaches and players, U.S. healthcare, and how many states STILL have not had a woman governor.
Word of the Week [1:25]: Logical Fallacy. It's one thing to say something is illogical, but it's another thing to get clear on how illogical it is. The concept of "moving the goalposts" is one logical fallacy used to view and understand historically excluded groups.
Phase 1 [5:06]: Sko Buffs: After only 2 seasons, the University of Colorado Buffaloes American football team has been transformed into a Bowl-worthy team, despite the naysayers. Dr. Shaunna leads the conversation on how Coach "Prime Time" Deion Sanders, his sons, and his team have constantly broken records all the while being underrated by pundits and journalists, alike.
Phase 2 [20:08]: HealthCare Woes: After the m*rd*r of the UnitedHealth Care CEO last year in NYC, Dr. Lisa discusses the less than empathetic response from many U.S. Americans that highlighted their frustrations with our system. Healthcare debt and access to timely medical care and medication are big fears for many U.S. Americans. In fact, nearly half if U.S. Americans experience medical debt, despite record-setting profits for health insurance providers.
Phase 3 [34:40]: Virginia's Making History: In 2025, the gubernatorial race will be one for the ages. Two women are likely to be on the ballot. Electing a woman governor in Virginia will bring the number of states that have never had a woman governor down to 17. Dr. Shaunna chats about her home state and what this may mean for the future of women in political leadership.
